It always amazes me how it seems that it takes Christmas so long to get here but and when it does.. it just flies right by! I sure hope that everyone had a relaxing and joyful Holiday, and maybe were spoiled just a little bit? Christmas morning was filled with smiles. The girls were very happy with what Santa (and the parents) brought them. And I must have been a very good girl this year because Santa brought me ..

This week has been a bunch of get together with family, and best friends (and their families). I love it and wouldn't have it any other way.. but my goodness I'm exhausted!
Just a side note.. I know I have been pretty sucky with the posts lately.. yep, I know I have. I vow that will change that in 2012.
This year for a New Year Resolution I decided I wasn't going to try and lose something, but actually gain. Knowledge! I want to learn something new every month. January is going to start off with me attempting to learn how to Knit. Something I always wanted to learn. I have ideas for each month so stay tuned!

I just love this time of the year... The excitement in the air.. especially around children. The gift of giving and being able to light up a child's face. The lights and sounds of Holiday decorations.
Decorating for the holidays is a long process around my house. I actually start preparing the weekend after Thanksgiving, but it still doesn't feel complete until the tree goes up! Now my house is finally complete.

My Fall Outdoor Space.. well half complete

Fall is my favorite time of the year and Halloween is definitely my favorite Holiday. With all the craziness of adding on on another job, volunteering, trying to complete a few projects in the house, oh and our dryer dying, I just about remembered to decorate the outside of my house. I am slipping in my old age - I swear. Last year's Fall project were these pretty cheap plastic pumpkins project and since I still love this project, I decided to put them back out.

Next I added a witch, a broom, a cauldron, a skull, a rat and fake cobwebs that I hoped looks like a spell is brewing (dry ice).. and there you have my half done kinda spooky outside space.

The space is still not complete. I still need to add corn stalks, Indian corn and some mums. The Pretty side of my outdoor space.
Sigh I need more days in the week.

Another Pottery Barn Fall decorating class

This past Sunday my girlfriends and I attended another Pottery Barn Fall Decorating Class.
Just a side note, this is the 2nd class I have attended, same topic and almost 1 year to the day later.
Weird right? Guess I really love the Fall? Anyhoo.. Have you ever been to one? They are actually pretty fun. This class was about 45 minutes long and conducted while the store was closed to the public. They also give you time to shop (while the store is still closed) after the class, along with a 10% discount that can be used for that day only. Yah Gotta love that.
This year Pottery Barn's class was on Fall table settings. Which it actually wasn't supposed to be. That's why I am only going to say that THIS class was just an OK class. They also did a session on decorating a side table with frames? Completely random and had nothing to do with the Fall whatsoever. I definitely felt last year's class was much more informative. The instructors did mentioned that they had this same class 3 weeks ago and they sold out of alot of stuff. Typical Pottery Barn.. out of stock.

While roaming around the store I got a few ideas that are definitely DIY. Especially since the prices are a little too steep for me.
This gorgeous burlap lamp shade seems totally doable. It even made me run right out to JoAnn's and picked up burlap and glue sticks.

Burlap "vino" sacks are just perfect that that bottle of wine you bring to all those Holiday parties.

The store was filled with ton mercury votive candle holders with almost all of the Fall/Halloween displays. These were just a few of my favorites.
I can picture this display on a mantle. Moss and all.

So loving this owl lantern.. but the price? ouch!

I would still highly recommend going to a free Pottery Barn decorating classes. If you sign up through their website they will email you upcoming classes near you. I know this much, I won't wait a year to another a nother one of these classes.

Lately I've made myself scarce and I am sorry about that. I am hoping to finally get back in the swing of things and have more posts for you. We are still in the mist of a laundry room, living room and youngest daughter's bedroom makeovers. Along with me trying to find another job. So I'm a lil off my game. My grand plans of organizing all of my makeover lists hasn't gone that well so far, but that's ok I have plenty of time to procrastinate on them, I mean get them done. :)

Not much has been going on decorating or craft wise mostly due to the enjoying the summer and us spending almost every weekend at the shore. :) One project that I am sloooooowly working on is sprucing up the living room/dining room. With much to do on my "To Do" list (like new rugs, more lighting, art work, painting stuff etc) the one simple thing I can do right now, is add new pillows.
Easy. Peasy. Done.
Originally I had thought I wanted to add black and greys to my neutral colored leather sectional, but after picking up black pillow covers (at Ikea) I found that I just wasn't digging that combo. Especially with the other light pillow covers I already owned and loved.
Enter Etsy seller: Festive Home Decor. She sells the most beautiful custom pillow covers in some fancy and hip patterns. I chose two gray Ikat 20x20 pillow covers. Um $24 for TWO pillow covers? Sold!

Well not really, but this heat just plain sucks. When is it going to end? And why does excessive heat make us all turn into whiners.. or is that just me?

I need to be pool side (or beaching it) with this drink in hand. Doesn't this drink look yummy and absolutely refreshing? Now back to the whining..

Zucchini Time!

Why am I singing this title like it's an MC Hammer song? Here's comes the zucchini.. woo oh oh oh.. No oh oh? oh well.
This is a shout out to all you novice and avid gardeners out there... are you over run with zucchinis yet? I am and I'm not even growing them! Thanks to my wonderful father-in-law, I have found myself with HUGE (and I mean huge) amount of zucchinis each week, and there is just no letting up. Not that I am complaining but there is only so many recipes one can create with all this zucchini.

Oh and I did I mention he also supplies us with summer and yellow squash too? Yum! Now what to do with all this zucchini you may ask? Well here are a few things that I have tried or am going to attempt to try since I literally have way too much for a family of 4.

I am open to suggestions on recipe ideas.

1. Make zucchini bread. Ok so this one is a no brainer. Next!
2. Pickle it. I am a pickled food fan and plan to do try this.
3. Play hide the zucchini. Ok that just made me giggle, what can I say - I have the mind of a 12 year old boy. Remember those Jessica Seinfeld cookbooks that show you how to hide veggies in your kid's foods? It only makes sense if you have picky eaters. From the age of 2 til 4, my youngest daughter would only eat mac n cheese, chicken nuggets and steamed broccoli. Oh and how could I forget her "dippy" eggs with mustard on the side. Ugh I wish I knew back then how to sneak zucchini into mac and cheese, lasagna or substitute zucchini for eggplant and make Zucchini Parmesan. Yum!

4. Fry it up! Sure, you knew this one too, but frying doesn't just mean throwing it into some hot oil. Try making zucchini fritters, pan fried zucchini fries with marinara sauce. How about getting a lil crazy and use Panko or cornmeal instead of regular ole bread crumbs or flour. They are all equally delish. Trust me.

5. Everything taste better with Chocolate so why not try Zucchini brownies, chocolate chip zucchini bread, zucchini chocolate chip cookies, or how about chocolate zucchini cake? Yes please to all of the above!
6. Drink it? PASS! Next!
7. Eat it raw. Shred it into coleslaw's or pasta salad. Or how about you serve it Greek-style? Yum
8. Stuff it. Provencal-style, Italian-style, chock-filled with meats or if you're a vegetarian. Stuff yourself with all that deliciousness.
9. Grill it. I know! Another totally obvious one, but there are just so many ways you can grill zucchini. You can make Grilled Zucchini Roll-ups, Grilled Zucchini Pizza, Zucchini kebabs, Grilled zucchini fries, Grilled zucchini, tomato and mozzarella sandwich . . . are you drooling yet?

Ok so let's have it. How do you prepare your zucchini? We still have 8 weeks of summer left. I need ideas people!

DIY Doily Lamp

At some point over the summer, youngest darling daughter will be getting a room makeover since A.) she deserves it. B.) I promised if she got a great report card (and she did) and C.) she hasn't had a makeover since she moved into her white walled bedroom 3 years ago.
I thought I would share an idea we had for lighting in her room because well, its too cute not to share! Oldest darling daughter actually found this idea for her.

We know we want to do a big fixture in her room since she wants a loft... Yes a loft. Initially we were looking at Ikea's large lighting fixtures, but this idea is just too cute and original not to try.
And I am pretty confident that Goodwill will have doily's up the wazoo.

the over hyped kitchen redo..

Well here it is.. my kitchen. Don't you remember that I actually had a mini kitchen makeover?
Yeah I figured..
I decided that I am completely doing these makeover all wrongs. Instead of saying I am going to do, I am going to try showing you once it's all ready done. Which is why I am not going to even mention a word on the laundry room makeover. Oops. My bad.
I won't bore you with a whole lot of befores and afters.. along with all the details on what we did with this space, well because honestly .. I'm over it.
I will mention that I am still trying to find that perfect runner. .. yes still.
Here is the 1st of the befores. Notice the Christmas decor? It was that long ago people.
Cabinets that were painted but never polyed - old green paint that I was so tired of - Gross peel and stick floors.

The hubby redid the whole wall around the sliding glass doors.

Here are the primed walls.. if you look close enough and you will see a touch of the old green paint.

And now for a few afters

And Now for my favorite touch to this room - the "legs" that we added to the cabinets (Lowe's). I swear they still make me happy when I see them. Just that little added feature totally changed how those cabinets look.. don't yah think?

Gorgeous molding all around. Hubby did a fantastic job on this space. Now I know it's not a major renovation or even that large of a space.. but I can proudly say we did every inch of this space over ourselves.. You gotta love that or at least like it :)

Happy Monday all! So did everyone have a nice weekend? Ours was pretty nice.We never made it to the shore due to crappy weather but the oldest daughter came home for the summer and we, well the hubby, laid tile down in the laundry room floor. All is right in my world today.
I spent most of the weekend putting away the college girl's stuff and puttering around the house... and when I say puttering what I really mean is clean a little, cook a little but mostly I was on my new iPad 2!
This was an early birthday gift, very early in fact since my birthday isnt until the end of June. I got this wonderful thoughtful gift back in March. I'm really not much into laptops, or pretty much anything that is electronic but this I wanted bad. I have been wanting for well over a year. Don't believe me - look here. See.. well over a year!
I'm not ashamed to say that I acted like a complete child until I got this gift. I whined, complained and I am pretty sure at one point I even held my breath. Was I a tad bit annoying? Um yeah, whateverrrr- I got it and I am in love with it. Seriously. Love.
I am still getting around to adding apps but the ones that I have found are so well.. cool. The magazines and catalogs are amazing on this thing. And they link directly to the merchandise. How cool is that?? The hubby loaded a few apps for me and one of my favorites is called Flipboard. Flipboard is really awesome because you can add different blogs (or feeds), websites etc. and you read them, well a book. You can also add all your social medias (twitter, Facebook etc) and it's puts them in a magazine format. I have a few of my fave blogs on there like Apartment Therapy, Pioneer Woman and also my blog!

Mud (room) on my mind

Happy Tuesday! I've been super busy lately.. how have you been? This holiday weekend was filled lots of yard work, and the beginning of "gutting the laundry room but soon to also be a mudroom" project. This wasn't a project we wanted to do (any time soon), it was more like the floors are rotting so it looks like we have to do this. My poor hubby (and poor neighbor) had to replaced the door, door frame (and the sill?) and started to gut the floors (all in 90 degree heat). This means no dryer for a few weeks, but on the plus side it also means since it is all going to the bare bones, we (I) can make it exactly how we (I) want it.

Pretty Piñatas

Summer weather brings backyard parties and what other way to celebrate a party then with a piñata! Who doesn't love a piñata at a party?
I saw this one over at YHL. Oh so cute. She made it into a pull piñata. Clever AND adorable.

My favorite room in the house

Is actually not a room that is in my house at all. It's my wonderful sunroom. After a heavy ice and snowfall in the Winter 2009/2010 left our old sunroom's roof buckling (literally), we decided last summer to take the time and redo that room. We replaced the sunroom's frame, roof, sanded and repainted the concrete floors, and also replaced all the screens and doors. Now it is, hands down my favorite space in the house. Two weeks ago we officially "opened"the sunroom for entertaining and relaxing. Now most of my time is either spent enjoying a quiet morning while sipping my coffee or relaxing at night while enjoying the views of my garden and playing on my new iPad 2 (Squeal)!

Last year I was lucky enough to score this sweet wicker set for $30 on Craiglist (CL rocks!). After I contacted the seller, I literally grabbed the hubby, jumped in the car and rushed over to the seller's house, just she wouldn't sell it to anyone else. The whole transaction took about an hour. The set was perfect except for the colors.

And After - I added a few coats of Rustoluem's Painters Touch spray paint (in Satin Espresso) and a ton of cushions from Homegoods and Viola - a whole new look that I just love.

An old toy box got a makeover with the same spray paint. I use this to hold sporting equipment and water guns.

But guess what?? It's not complete. Currently I have this chandelier hanging in the sunroom.

It's just too big for the space and it also a fire hazard. I can't really enjoy the candlelight when I am worried about the screens melting now can I? This needs to be replaced ASAP.. but with what?

Target + Missoni = OMG!

I'm about a week later to this announcement but did you hear? It seems the next best major designer to collaborate with Target will be Missoni! Can I get a woot woot! Vogue is reporting that come THIS Fall, the Missoni for Target line (with over 400-plus items - their biggest collab to date!) will hit Target stores nationwide. Everything from clothes (for the whole family) to bed sheets, dinnerware (all in Missoni’s signature swirls, zigzags and crazy florals). Missoni has really been branching out with it's collaborations lately...1st with Converse and then Havaianas. So be sure to mark your calendars for September 13th ladies because after the fantastic Calypso debut (still can't find that darn blue elephant teapot anywhere) it's about to go down and quick!

Loving - An Urban Oasis

Monday night my oldest daughter and I went to The Airborne Toxic Event concert in the city (by "the city" I mean Philly). First I have to tell you if you have never heard of TATE, you must check them out ASAP. They are seriously the most AWESOME band EV-ER! Secondly, while driving around the city I tend to get excited. Mostly because I get to day dreaming of days when the hubby and I will retire will there. Yes, it is a loooong ways off but I still get a thrill when I drive around and see a cool building I never noticed or a row home that I would die to live in. While I do love my home, my neighbors and even my town, I just love love the city. I dream of the days when the hubby and I can walk to the stores (with our grandchildren), take bike rides on Kelly Drive or hey maybe I'll still be rocking out at concerts!

Houzz sent out an email showing off urban gardens and I was instantly drooling. Just because you live in the city does not mean you still can't have a garden oasis.

A Great Mother's Day and I'm a winner!

Hey girrrrlssss.. How was your Mother's day?
Mine? Fan-freakin-tabulous. I came home from work on Friday to find a package waiting for me! You know it's always a good start to a weekend when you get a box in the mail.
Remember a few week's ago when I posted about the Three Ring Cottage's Giveaway?? No you don't remember? WTH? Anyway .. I WON! Woot woot!
Here is what I saw as I opened the box.. Mmmhmm.. there might have been a little oohing and aahing while opening.

These antique paperclips are insanely adorable. What to do with them?

And those vintage milk bottle? Sigh.. They will be filled with flowers Stat.

As for Mother's Day - The hubby out did himself yesterday with the Mother's Day brunch. Assorted muffins, ham cheese and asparagus quiche, sausage, scrapple, home fries and these..

The rest of my day was spent at Ikea picking up rugs and a light fixture for the living room. The hubby also provided a feast for dinner. Fill my belly and let me nap on the couch and I consider myself one lucky woman.

Coming up - Mother's Day!

I'm sure I don't have to remind you that Mother's Day is this Sunday. Got any special plans going on? Hosting a brunch or BBQ? Or are you one of the lucky ones that is spending the day at a Spaaaaa? Sigh.. Don't tell me if those are your plans... I'm so jealous.
This year I am hosting a brunch for my mom and my mother-in-law. Two ladies that I completely adore. I already came up with a menu that the hubby is happily going to prepare for us. Hey, he asked and I eagerly told him what we (I) would like to have prepared. He's good like that.
Ooooh I almost forgot about cocktails. This year instead of a regular ole mimosa's I am going to try a something different - Mango Mimosa! Yum. Anyone ever try them?
Things have been so crazy busy around here that I haven't even given a thought as to how I am going decorate the table on Sunday. Mostly because my linens suck it big time. New napkins and table covers are definitely on the to-do list for this brunch. Nothing I have says Spring and/or fantastic, so it looks like I will need to take a trip to HomeGoods. Yeah me!

Now what do you think of this table setting? Don't you just love the colors and how they mixed polka dots with stripes. Fun, Springy and simply gorgeous. Definitely an inspiration for my table.

Stencil me in ~ Loving this idea

Like any homeowner in the world there are things I love about my home and then there are things that just drive me nuts. I live in a tri-level home so this is one of the 1st things you see when you enter my home.

Boring and plain. Not much on the drama meter.. definitely a neglected part of my home. I really don't think that there isn't much that can be done with the stairwell (but if you have ideas I will gladly take them), but the stairs can for sure be spruced up. The previous owner painted the back of the wood stairs white. It's not the best idea to paint the stairs since they always look scuffed. It drives me crazy.

Then I saw these inspirational ideas and it was love. True "oh inspire me" love. Stenciling the back of your steps! It's chic, different and definitely a lot of drama. All the things I love. The more I started to look into this idea, the more I am inspired to do this project. Looks like I'll need to go stencil shopping.

Swing Arm Lamps - Dated or Darling?

I would like to call on my followers to help settle a little disagreement the hubby and I are having. With much hopes and luck, I will start a makeover on my LR/DR (a slow process). Along with wonderful ideas I got from Michelle, I have a few that I am just dying to incorporate into this bland space. One of them being additional lighting for over the sectional and I just LOVE love the idea of having a large swing arm wall sconce with shade in this area below. It's screaming for something, I just hope lighting is it.

The problem? The hubby is saying nay and he also thinks it will look dated and ugly. He doesn't mince words now does he? Normally I could give 2 bleeps about what he says about what I do around the house, but since it is half his house and if he feels this strongly about it, could I be wrong? Looking at these inspirational photos makes me think I am so freaking right. It makes the space feel cozy and it's also functional.
Right?

After my post about me proudly stating I am MILF, I got a comment from the author of the book ""Got Milf?: The Modern Mom's Guide to Feeling Fabulous, Looking Great, and Rocking a Minivan!" Sarah Maizes. This comment led to us sending emails back and forth and now I gotta say I just love her. She's funny, witty and so down to earth. She is also a comedian, and single mother of 3. Yikes. She is doing a tour to promote her book and will be in Philly on April 20th. I just can't wait to get my hands on this book.

Check out her youtube video to promote her book. Seriously - Hilarious. And no Sarah did not pay me for the full blown love post about her and her book. I just love to help out a fellow MILF.. but hey if she throws in a book for a giveaway.. I wouldn't be opposed. That's how us MILF's roll....

Anthropologie love ~ thru the eyes of a 12 year old

This past weekend I spent some extra quality time with my youngest daughter. Now I know that I don't need to tell you how time flies but it does, it really does. It seems like a yesterday I was showing her how to brush her teeth and this weekend I walked in to the dining room to see this - My little girl was drinking tea and polishing her nails! When did this happen?

I decided to take her to a few places to look for ideas for her bedroom. On the drive Anthropologie, I asked her if it would be ok if we walked around the store and I took pictures of everything that she absolutely loved and then blogged about it. She was game.
As soon as we walked up to the store windows I was informed that me she didn't know how or what the item would be, but something "had to be" painted this color in her new room. She told me to take a picture, so I did. Smart kid, that is one gorgeous color. I might have to steal this idea.

Once inside she quickly and I mean quickly, ran to this dress. The "most gorgeous dress she ever saw". I didn't think til later to take a picture of her face when she looked at the price tag. Her expression was priceless.

The next thing on her sights on were these colorful giraffe stacked pots. She suggested that we might use them for her art supplies, TV and itouch remotes or even her flat iron and brushes. Pretty genius of her.

My girl is a budding baker and she went gaga over the cutesy kitchen stuff at Anthropologie... especially these measuring cups. Seeing her get all excited over the baking items gave me a great idea on what to fill her Easter Basket with this year.

And she spied something for her sister, the owl lover. She's so sweet.

Of course while browsing the store, I happen to find a few things that made me say OOHHH.. like this cool orange iron chair.

and Ahhhhh. This gorgeous GORGEOUS mirrored dresser. Sigh. I'll take 2 please.

Like most 12 year old girls, she tends to be a tad dramatic. While I was in another part of the store but still within an ear shot, I heard the loudest gasp, followed by an even louder squeal, then followed by the dreaded "MOM come here QUICK"! Everyone in the store knew that she had found the bed of her dreams! Of course I rushed right over to see what that looked like (insert sarcasm) I walked up ready to ask "why do you have to be so so loud" when I saw her practically laying all over this bed. But do you blame her? It really is a pretty cool. A funky, fun and so "her" bed. And now it's the inspiration around the design for her room (I hope to see those quilts in the sale room soon). Not too shabby for a 12 year old.

And the last thing my 12 year old just loooooved was this phone. An old fashioned orange rotary phone.

Adorable. She picked it up pretending to make a call then turned me to and said the words I never thought a kid of mine would mutter. "Mom how go you use this thing, there are no buttons to push". Really? Can you believe I had to show her how to use a rotary phone? Picture Anne Sullivan teaching Helen Keller.

Technology really can be a bitch.

All that window shopping and what did I buy? A small bowl to use a salt holder.

and I love all $4 of it!

Flowers and Molding

A few years ago the hubby was looking for manly things to do around the house and he asked if I would be intertested in a "window" between the kitchen and the dining room. His reasons were so we could see into the rooms while entertaining or catching the game on TV. After he assured me that the house would not crumble to the ground, I told him sure go for it. Am I glad he had this great idea and that I trusted him to do it, because I just love it. It adds the perfect decorative element to our the space. Throw in Spring flowers and a few pretty vases into the design mix and sure feels like Spring is in da house. Literally.

The petite pink vases are from Ikea. I wonder if I am the only one that collects all kinds of jars, vases, anything that can hold flowers and I mean anything. I have a collection that is just too embarrassing to show. If it's cool looking and can hold water..I save it. It's a sickness. Am I the only one?

The Power of Three

I am sure all you aspire designers are aware of The Rule of 3, but for a newbie like me who is just learning the designing ropes, this is some exciting stuff. It seems the gist of this Rule" (more of a guideline) while designing or accessorizing a space, you use 3 objects or 3 accessories of the same color. My Media Design College daughter was the one tutoring me on this Rule. She suggested that I decide on 3 objects to add to my kitchen, all orange. This "rule" suggests that objects that appear in 3's are generally more appealing and effectively visually, then any of number of objects. What do you think about that? Do you think that there is more balance and symmetry with 3 objects? If you want to see more on this rule, check out this pretty cool blog that explains more.

The inspiration below is what I was going for in my space. Notice the 3 yellow objects? A yellow painting, the yellow stools and finally the bowl of lemons. 3 Yellow objects. Exactly what my daughter was suggesting. wow she is a genius. You know she gets it all from me.

My 1st piece of inspiration is my new orange tea kettle. I finally found one that was reasonably priced and perfectly colored at HomeGoods for $19. Who knew they could be so pricey? Then there is a black metal basket that I was already using for fruits. And lastly, a plain old boring white wall clock from Target.

1st the clock. I love how the orange pops against the newly painted walls (Carolina Inn Aqua Club).

I used spray paint from Walmart Krylon's Glossy Pumpkin Orange. I also applied a little antiquing glaze so it toned the orange down just a bit.

Next is the metal fruit basket. I didn't do anything to crazy, just good old fashioned spray paint. Again, it just adds a pop of color to this space. Are you seeing the fancy schmancy camera angle below? Insert Oh's and Ah's here. Annie Liebovitz's has got nothing on me.

I wanted to show the basket with the clock in the background. Now keep in mind my oven is on the other side of the room, so putting the kettle inget the idea that there are 3 orange objects that are in this space. Right? Just nod and say yes.

I'm pretty sure that you are tired of hearing me talk about my kitchen, cause lord knows I am, but it is done,well not DONE done, but done enough. We still have to add molding around the cut out between the kitchen and dining room. Remember the whole me trying to trying to make my own chevron rug? Can you say Project Failure? I'm just not ready to talk about it. .. yet. Let's just say that a very fiberous sisal rug, painters tape and a complete goober do not always work well with each other. Lines don't always.. well line up like you NEED them too.
Anyhoo I can't wait to finally show you the kitchen. It will be the most anticlimatic reveal EVER and then I will never ever utter a word about it again. Ever.

Spring has Sprung

Not the wittiest title, but you get the idea.
It's about time too. I guess Mother Nature doesn't give a hoot about the adorable peeptoe shoes and animal print flats I got for the Spring, now does she? Funny how the day before the 1st official day of Spring I saw not a sign of Spring, not even a bloom, but wake up Sunday morning and what do I see? Spring has Sprung in NJ. Outside these was bulbage, flowers and buds (oh my) a plenty. Was Mother Nature listening about those new shoes? Nope. She is toying with us by sprinkling us with some snow yesterday. Yeah, Freakin snow. I am not amused.
Here are the 1st signs of Spring on Delicious Way people.. my own little slice of Heaven.

We have a few plans for the backyard this Spring but this year I am keeping the my list very small. And when I say "my list" you know I really mean the hubby's list. Mostly just moving the fire pit and lounge area to the another side of the yard that we hardly use - for privacy. I plan to plant a few perennials in the front of the house and a few more in the back. That's about it .. for now.

I thought I would share my husband's latest obsession. Wood. My yard basically looks like a lumber yard. Don't believe me? See below. And that's not even half of it.
Sidenote (just for my husband's sake) we are saving a ton of $ on our heating bill.

The swing will get a fresh coat of spray paint this year. I decided on a different palette of colors for the outside. Currently it is a chocolate brown, but I am thinking greys, turquoise and a bright yellow. Can you picture it? What do you think?
Soon the sunroom will get back to its gorgeous splendor and I am looking forward to those days. Sipping a few cocktails, enjoying the flowers and greenery and watching the hubby while he does yard work .. hopefully with no shirt on. Mmmhmmm, I am sure looking forward to those days.

I'd like to give a shout you to myself. My picture taking skills are seriously no joke. I think I am getting the hang of it. What do you think?

An E-design Mood board just for me!

A few weeks ago Michelle over at Ten June offered to a free e-design mood board for her followers and I jumped right on the chance. Am I ever glad that I did. Yesterday she sent me her ideas and I was blown away by what a difference adding some color could do for my space. Not just any color, but the perfect colors. Suddenly I didn't see a sea of beige anymore... I saw her vision and it was fantastic.

Feeling the Blues

Lately I have been having the blues.. the dark navy midnight blues. I've kinda become obsessed with the idea of painting the walls of my home office a deep dark blue. You have seen this look haven't you? The dark blue walls with glossy white molding? It is genius I tell you, pure decorating genius. I want to share with you two of my favorite decorating savvy bloggers, both took a chance with their dining rooms and it really paid off. The results are just fantastic.
First up, Michelle from Ten June. You may remember Michelle from when I showed off her sunburst mirror. Her blue painted Dining Room is simply, well simply gorgeous. Michelle is also creating a mood board for my Living Room and Dining Room. Squeal!! I am so flipping excited about this. I can not wait to see what she has created for my space, but more on that later. Don't you just love the Ikea rug with those blue walls? The yellow really pops.

Next up is Millie at The Mango Archives. Just look at this Dining Room. I Die. Seriously. That bar cart is just pure eye candy for that room. The ceiling to floor curtains also make this space.

Afraid of all that blue? Then why not try what John & Sherry did over at Young House Love.. they painted the back of their bookcases a dark velvety blue. Will you look at all those white accents. Their love of all things white makes me so happy!

I'm bored so break out the Antiquing Glaze

In spite of the millions projects that I have coming out the wazoo, I actually started and finished something. A major accomplishment for me these days. Ever look at something and think "I don't like how you look and I'm going to change you for the better"? Besides your husband? ;-)
I give you my 2 candle holders that I am dubbing project "I'm bored, so let's change you for the better". I got these candle holders a few years back from Southern Living at Home. Do you remember this company? It was all the demo rage a few years back. Hmm does anyone know if they are even still around? On second thought, don't tell me. It would be a bad thing if I knew that they were still around. I loved their stuff, but due to the amount of demos that I was attending in a very short amount of time, the hubby put his foot down and said enough with the demos. Of course I didn't hear him complain once when I was also attending a bunch of "adult" demos. Nooo those he actually handed me more money to attend. Men!
Anyhoo.. back to the candle holders.
Notice the white accents on them? How could you not. I don't like them anymore. They stand out too much for my liking, so I antiqued them in hopes of it all blending together.

So here is the before - Crooked candles and all.

and a shot of "during". It's already starting to look better. Can you see what I am trying to achieve with the glaze? Subtle.

The "After". A few more coats of the glaze and also a few sprays of acrylic to seal the color.
